Today, my sister told me that she needed to talk to me about something. She told me that she wants a to "claim" a certain first name for her future daughter. The name is Natalie, and she has heard me mention before that I like that name and that I would using consider it.
We then went on to discuss several other names. Almost every name I mentioned, she wanted to "claim" for her own exclusive use. And every name I rejected, she says that she also dislikes. Coincidental or not, we do seem to share a similar taste in names.
I know that this sounds like my sister is being rather annoying, and maybe more than a little bratty. But to be honest, the conversation kinda amused me. After all, I have all the power in this situation. Remember, my sister is nine years old! :) :)
Edited to add: S just said that he previously dated not just one but TWO women with that name, so it's probably off my list anyway!

I was starting to get annoyed with your sister until I got to the part where she was 9. Cute story.
And yeah, anybody that DH dated is off the name list
I think whoever has the baby first gets the name! :)
:) And I agree, IF or not, I think I'll probably have a baby before she will. (I certainly hope!) As for using the names of exes thing, I guess it matters how long the relationship was. If it was say, 2 dates, I wouldn't care, but if it was a longer term relationship it would probably be weird. One of the Natalies was apparently a 6 month relationship, so that's probably out.
That's hilarious. I was feeling pretty annoyed by your sister til you said she's 9!
I was thinking your sister was kinda witchy for laying claim to all those names, but when I remembered she's 9, I thought how perfect! What 9 year old doesn't have names picked out?? :)
Thats funny you brought this up. My favorite girl name, is also the name of my hubby's ex girlfriend (very long term and serious relationship).
At first I thought no way are we ever using that name, but as time has gone by, I've changed my mind.
His ex is probably a smart and nice woman, but most importantly, she is not relevant in either of our lives at all. I think they had a cordial break up and she is now married with her own children. Great for her, but I'm going to steal her name (hopefully someday!) Yay for me. The hubby is on board, too. However, if we had a boy we would have some naming issues. I do not like the hubby's choices at all.
any symptoms yet???
